...to help us make a difference to your community.

As new homes are built, the Parish Council receives a CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy). CIL is paid by the developer to the District Council. Because Washington has adopted a Neighbourhood Plan, we receive 25% of this.CIL regulations are used to support the development of local area funding by the provision, improvement, replacement, operation or maintenance of infrastructure or anything else that is concerned with addressing the demands that development places on an area. This might include for example: sports, recreational and cultural facilities; community buildings, transport improvements and green spaces.

This CIL represents a great opportunity to enhance/enrich the parish and provide a greater selection of amenities for all ages and tastes but it must be spent within 5 years of receipt or it may be returned to the District Council. For guidance on CIL and how it operates, visit the Government’s website at:https://www.gov.uk/guidance/community-infrastructure-levyAs a small parish area, with less development than other parishes, Washington parish’s CIL funds are modest but we would like to allocate these as strategically as possible in relation to community needs in our locality.

To do this, the Parish Council is carrying out a survey as we want to directly ask the Washington parish community for their ideas. Please note, we will only be able to fund a small number of projects. For the ideas we do take forward, we may need to seek additional information, funds and partnerships to meet the costs.

If you live in the parish, please send in your ideas and suggestions on how the CIL funding can contribute to benefitting your community. You can do this either by completing the online form below or email your ideas to the the Council’s dedicated CIL Survey mailbox at:cilresponse@washingtonparish.org.uk . If emailing, please include your full name and Washington address so that it can be included in the survey. Your details will not be published and will only be retained for the purposes of the survey. Closing date for responses is 31st October 2022.”

Thank you for taking part.
