Welcome to our new website, which is fully compliant with the latest accessibility requirements for the public sector.

The Parish of Washington, West Sussex, comprises two wards, served by eleven parish councillors, within the area administered by Horsham District Council. The village lies at the foot of the South Downs escarpment, with large parts of it set within a conservation area. Heath Common sits adjacent to National Trust land at Warren Hill and Sullington Warren, and has been designated an area of special character through the Heath Common Design Statement, adopted by Horsham District Council in 2018.

Washington ward has five councillors and incorporates Washington village, the A24 down to North Farm, Old London Rd, Montpelier Gardens, Spring Gardens, Rock Rd (East) and the A283 as far West as (and including) Millford Grange.

Heath Common ward has six councillors, and includes “The Lanes” – Hampers, Sanctuary, Georges, Bracken etc, together with Newhouse Lane, Merrywood Lane (part), Tudor Village, Rock Rd (West), Muttons Lane and Thakeham Copse.

The Council has two vacancies for the Washington Ward. If you are interested in applying to become a Parish Councillor please contact the Clerk on 0777 6771921 (Monday to Thursday) or come along to one of our meetings to learn more about the Council's activities.


The Council will be considering applications for co-option at its next Full Council meeting on Monday 13th May 2024. Any person wishing to be considered for these roles should contact the Clerk for an application form.
